Program of Study:

Delaware's Family Consumer Sciences programs of study can prepare those with a desire to serve the field of education outside of the classroom.  The Delaware Teacher Academy believes that each of the programs of study and student organizations play a vital role in the future of our education system, as well as the the enhanced physical, social-emotional and academic instruction and engagement of every child.

The K-12 Teacher Academy program of study is a three (3) and six (6) course CTE program that prepares students for careers in elementary and secondary education. Observation opportunities in a variety of age and discipline settings, as well as special needs and non-classroom settings, provide practical experiences while enriching the learning. Students participate in a long-term placement during their senior year which allows for in-depth experiences in a classroom setting.*

The Early Childhood Teacher Academy program of study is a three (3) course Career & Technical Education (CTE) program that engages students in developing a realistic understanding of early childhood while exploring the importance and impact of teachers. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to sustain their interest in the early childhood profession and cultivate the skills needed to be successful, thus creating a pipeline of high-quality students transitioning to the early childhood field. Students will understand the importance and uniqueness of early childhood and participate in classroom and field experiences. The program prepares students for a variety of careers in early childhood such as teacher, curriculum director, and administrator.*

The Culinary & Hospitality Management program of study is a three (3) and six (6) course CTE program that is supported by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation. ProStart® trains students on industry-specific skills that can be used in all aspects of the restaurant and hospitality industry along with the employability skills like leadership, accountability, teamwork, and responsibility. The program prepares students for careers such as Executive chef and Sous Chef, Food Service Manager, Kitchen Manager, and Line Cook.*

The Fashion and Apparel program of study is a three (3) course Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Students learn construction skills for application to fashion including color, proportion and fit. Science principles are used to help students understand fibers to better determine appropriate application. Fashion business including the economic impact of the industry as well as marketing and management are studied along with employability skills like leadership, accountability, teamwork, and responsibility. This program prepares students for careers such as store manager, fashion designer, assistant buyer, visual merchandiser.*
